This is Sindi
Hi I am Sindi, I don’t know my exact age but I am around 8-10 months old.
Yesterday my mother left me outside and walked away. I am so confused why didn’t she take me with. Maybe she went to buy some nappies and milk, so I played a little.
Even tho the sun was out it was cold and mommy took so long to come back, I could stop myself from crying. Someone heard me and came to see me, she was very nice but I just wanted my mommy. She waited a little with me but mommy was not coming back.
The kind lady took me to the police station, and she told the police that she found me and that my mommy didn’t come back to fetch me.
The police wrote some things down, made some calls and the lady left me with the police. Where was she going now, will she come back to fetch me so we can look for my mommy?
The police lady was very nice to me, she got me something so drink and eat. I miss my mommy, I am tired.
We went with a big car, those cars that they catch robbers with. They didn’t put the lights on but it was kinda cool to be in it.
We drove all the way to Prince Mshiyeni Hospital to see a special Dr, they call it a District Surgeon. There are only a hand full in Durban and they have to cover all the hospitals. So we waited and waited and waited and waited.
I was thinking about mommy, is she also waiting like me? I hope she is ok and she is just as upset as me.
The hospital was so busy, there were people everywhere, and talking so much, but I did not recognise my mommy’s voice, she is not here.
It started to get dark and still waiting for the Dr to see me. I want my mommy now, it’s been to long without her. I want everything to be normal again.
The police lady is holding me and petting my back, my eyes are getting heavier and heavier and finally I fall of to sleep.
In my dreams everything is normal and I feel so calm. But than I wake up and see that nothing has changed, my mommy is not here, I am still at the hospital with the police lady and we still waiting.
The police lady is very kind, she plays with me, to get through the time. I think she is a mommy too, she is very nice.
Finally the Dr calls us to come and see him. He checks my mouth, my tummy, my private, my head and then starts writing, he seems to be happy, but you can see he is also tired just like me.
Finally we were done, and we went back to the car and drove for a long time. It’s not the same road we took before but the motion of the car and the sound put me back to sleep again.
We stopped and are now at another house were there is a lady that they call mom Glynnis, she is in pj’s so it must be long past my bed time. It was 4:20am.
The kind police lady to me inside and mom glynnis made me a bottle and put me to sleep.
I was just to tired to feel anything.
This morning I woke up to a house full children. There are 2 children around my age they like me, as they bring me toys.
The auntie gave me a nice bath and some delicious porridge. Later we even had chippies as a snack, not healthy but so yummy. Auntie Jo said we could have chippies because I was new so we had a little party.
I like it here for now, but I do miss mommy a lot.
